R1TV eSkola is the e-learning platform behind Riga 1st Distance Learning Secondary School. It runs the whole learning journey online - from applying and enrolling to studying, taking tests and tracking grades.

Challenge
In 2018, Riga 1st Distance Learning Secondary School brought in Mitigate to maintain and develop its existing e-learning platform. The product worked, but the school needed a technology partner to keep it running day to day, ship new features, build integrations and help it scale as student numbers grew.
At the same time, more and more of the school's processes had to move online - enrolment and document signing, coursework, tests, payments and communication.
Solution
Over the years, Mitigate has turned the original product into one digital environment for the entire distance learning process. Enrolment is now fully automated: students apply, sign their contract and documents online, and for students under 18 the platform brings their parents or legal guardians into the process.
Tests are protected by automated identity verification and proctoring. The platform has three portals - for students, teachers and parents - and connects to services for online lessons, payments, authentication and analytics.

Online enrolment and e-signing
Students apply, sign their contract and complete their paperwork entirely online. For students under 18, the process adapts automatically and involves their parents or legal guardians.
Proctoring and identity verification
To keep remote tests fair and trustworthy, the platform verifies each student's identity and monitors tests with automated proctoring.
Three user portals
Separate portals for students, teachers and parents, so each group sees exactly the information and tools it needs.
Integrations with external services
Online lessons, payments, authentication and user behaviour analytics all come together in one platform, backed by a wide range of third-party integrations.
